A single-herb liquid extract of dried fruit of Piper nigrum, cold-macerated in small batches and offered either as a traditional tincture in organic sugar-cane alcohol or as a vegetable glycerite.

About the plant

Black pepper is the dried unripe fruit of a woody climbing vine native to the Malabar coast of southern India, now grown across the wet tropics. The vine throws roots from its nodes and climbs living trees to ten metres, hanging slender spikes of tiny fruits that ripen from green through yellow to red. For black pepper the spikes are cut while still green, briefly scalded, and dried in the sun, during which the skin blackens and shrinks into the familiar wrinkled corn; white pepper is the same fruit picked ripe with the skin rubbed away. The heat is piperine, and it is not related to the capsaicin of chillies. For most of recorded history this was the single most valuable article of the spice trade, and the search for a sea route to its source redrew the map of the world.

No added sugar. Contains no artificial colours, preservatives or fragrances.

Suggested use

Shake well before use. Take 20–30 drops (about 1 ml, one full squeeze of the dropper bulb) in 2 oz of water or juice, up to 4 times daily, or as directed by a qualified healthcare practitioner.

Warnings

Black pepper increases how much of some medicines the body absorbs. If you take any prescription medicine, speak to a pharmacist before taking concentrated pepper extract alongside it.

Keep out of reach of children. Not for use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. If you are taking any medication, have a medical condition, or are scheduled for surgery, consult a healthcare practitioner before use. Discontinue use if an adverse reaction occurs.
